Use Nitter as a Twitter Reader on Your Phone

Using Twitter in 2023 without an account has become increasingly difficult. The platform restricts content viewing, imposes registration and actively uses advertising trackers. But there is a simple solution for those who just want to read the feeds of interesting users – it’s Nitter. It’s an open-source alternative to Twitter’s official frontend that allows you to view posts without login, ads, or tracking.

Nitter works like a website. To use it, you just need to open any of its mirrors (instances) in your browser. For example, you can type https://nitter.net/name into the address bar and you’ll immediately see that user’s tweet feed. The interface is as simple and lightweight as possible – posts load quickly, nothing distracts you, and there are no tracking scripts. This is especially convenient on phones with not the most powerful hardware or with a slow connection.

If you often read the same pages, you can save them as bookmarks or add a shortcut to your smartphone desktop. In mobile Chrome or Firefox, just tap on the menu icon and select “Add to Home Screen”. This way, Nitter will open as a regular app, without having to open the browser and enter the address every time.

There is a separate app for Android called Fritter. It uses Nitter as a base and allows you to subscribe to profiles, create lists, and even save favorites – all without login and trackers. There are similar solutions on iOS, though they’re less common. It’s also worth noting that Nitter supports RSS. This means you can get updates from accounts you’re interested in via any RSS reader, such as Inoreader or Feeder. The feed address looks simple: https://nitter.net/username/rss.

Since Twitter is actively fighting alternative interfaces, some Nitter instances may be overloaded or unavailable. However, a list of working mirrors is constantly updated on the project’s official wiki.

Nitter doesn’t allow you to write tweets, give likes or reply – it’s purely a “reader”. But if you need access to content without registration and unnecessary noise, it copes with this task perfectly. And if you install a browser extension, such as Nitter Redirect, all links to Twitter will automatically open through Nitter, making it even easier to use.

In a world where privacy and convenience are becoming rare, Nitter remains a reliable and easy tool for reading Twitter in its purest form – without logins, ads or tracking. Especially on mobile devices, this makes it indispensable for those who just want to read, not participate in an algorithmic race.
